SALVATION

Romans 5:1
Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:19-21
God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation.
Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.
He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

Ephesians 1:7
In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace.

John 3:14-
As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life.
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. He who believes in Him is not judged.

Luke 7:50
Jesus said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you; go in peace."

Luke 17:19
And He (JESUS) said to him, "Stand up and go; your faith has made you well."

Luke 18:42
Jesus said to him, "Receive your sight; your faith has healed you."

Sound Doctrine; Sound Words (Phil Johnson)

Here is the lecture that is making a little stir by Phil Johnson called "Sound Doctrine; Sound Words". He gave this at the 2009 Shepherd's Conference. While this lecture does touch on certain problems in evangelicalism naming them specifically, that's not the reason this lecture has impressed upon me so much although I do agree with him that all of the examples he provided have no place in church. What made this so important to me was the exegesis he offered as to why not only sound doctrine but also sound speech, behavior, etc. is taken on by him and many others (including the Apostle Paul as Phil demonstrates) as something that should not be taken lightly in regard to ourselves, our relationship to others and, our relationship to God. Before this, I knew that the Scriptures tell us to have standards to conduct ourselves by as servants of God, but I had never heard it delivered in such a concise and lucid way as Phil has here. That's the main reason I asked Phil if I could post it here and share it with the rest of you. I believe that this lecture is one of the utmost importance especially considering the rise of immaturity that has arisen as of late in the name of "evangelicalism", "contextualization", and "missional outreach". Listening to this in its entirety well worth an hour spent. It provides a good basis for arguing that right doctrine isn't always the only thing that is needed in the life of the Christian. After all, Satan and his demons have the doctrines down, and angels of light have their "statements of faith" lined up with Scripture, too.

i hope my blog isn't a stumbling block to anyone.
